The wind had not let up, but it was sunny - not a cloud around. Our route took us by way of the NASA railroad bridge to the Haulover Canal. This one mile canal cuts through Merritt Island and connects the Indian River with the Mosquito Lagoon. We next cruised up a 10 mile dredged channel with a number of fishing camps and cottages. 
Before long, we came to Ponce de Leon Inlet with its 175-foot red lighthouse. From there we continued via the Halifax River to Daytona Beach.
