February 15 - Jacksonville, FL to St. Marys, GA

We returned from sunny Florida to Michigan for our mother's 90th birthday celebration. My siblings, four sisters and four brothers, their spouses, a number of grand children and great grand children were all present to join in this great celebration. Mother Nature also showed us that snow can be beautiful. On Feb. 14 we returned to Jacksonville and reboarded the Marco Polo II. The next morning it was back
to our Great Loop trip. We cruised down the St John River and passed a number of small fishing boats and freighters from various places around the world. The red freighter came from Amsterdam. We turned into Sisters Creek for our northward trip along the ICW. We passed Amelia Island and headed to Fernandina Beach for our fuel
stop. Just before arrival, we were joined by thee dolphins. After our fuel stop, we continued to St. Marys, Georgia. It is one of the oldest cities in the USA with some lovely Victorian homes, inns, restaurants and antique shops. St. Marys is also the "Gateway to Cumberland Island". It was here that the Carnegies had their homes.

It was fun exploring this quaint town with its moss covered oak trees. We also visited Oakgrove Cemetery, dating back to 1788.
